Work Health and Safety

This qualification is suitable for people working in a work health and safety (WH&S) role who may or may not work under supervision.

The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety reflects the role of workers who apply a broad knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of contexts and may include coordinators, advisors and facilitators.Students may provide leadership guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others.

This course is directed at individuals who assume a leadership role in Work Health and Safety. It provides them with the knowledge and skills required to guide others in a participatory process. The course is particularly directed at individuals who are employed in organisations such as construction, transport, manufacturing, mining or any businesses where WHS committees exist and regular WHS briefings are required.

The course will teach students how to:

  • Comply with WH&S legislation
  • Identify hazards and how to assess and control risks
  • Contribute to WH&S in a workplace environment, including
  • Aid in the implementation of WH&S strategies to control risks and emergency procedures.
  1. Completion of Australian Year 11 level or the overseas equivalent.
  2. English language evidence
      • IELTS, PTE, etc. The test result must be valid within 2 years at the time of the visa application.
      • Some Education Institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test that you can take to meet the English entry requirements.
      • Exemptions apply if:
        – you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
        – you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
        – you have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
  • Safety inspector
  • Human resources assistant
  • Payroll officer

After achieving this qualification, individuals could progress to: BSB51315 – Diploma of Work Health and Safety.
