Laboratory Techniques
The Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques and the Diploma of Laboratory Techniques provide students with the qualifications, theoretical skills, practical knowledge and experience to work as a Laboratory assistant or technician in medical, environmental, industrial, food, educational or commercial laboratories.
During these practical courses you will be trained in all aspects of laboratory operations, including occupational health and safety (OHS), analytical instrumentation, laboratory management systems, chemistry, microscopy and biological techniques. You will develop the practical skills and knowledge to collect and prepare samples, carry out experiments, and present results for critical analysis.
Upon graduation you will have gained the knowledge and extensive practical experience to confidently start your career as a laboratory technical assistant, technician, or instrument operator in a range of relevant fields including Pathology, manufacturing, environmental testing, mining and biotechnology.
- Students need to be at least 18 years old.
- Academic requirement: Passed Australian Year 12 or the overseas equivalent
- Present English language evidence

- IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: 6.0 overall – no band less than 5.5; OR equivalent). The test result must be valid within 2 years at the time of the visa application.
- Some Education Institutions offer an in-house English Placement Test that you can take to meet the English entry requirements.
- Exemptions apply if:
– you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
– you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
– you have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
