What Are My Options If My Visa Is Expiring and I Haven’t Received an Invitation Yet?
The financial year of 2023 was the best year to receive an invitation for General Skilled Migration. Almost all of our applicants received an invitation who were onshore. Consequently, the 2024 Financial Year has been very underwhelming due to the lack of invitations. This was likely due to such a huge number of invitations being issued in the 2023 Financial Year.
Thankfully the different states and territories are demanding an increase in invitations and it is expected immigration will re-allocate new invitations to the new financial year (from 1 Jul 2024 onwards). If you do not receive an invitation in time, there are several work visa options that you can look at. These visas will allow you to remain in Australia and continue to work and live until you receive an invitation.
As a fallback option, you can look at the:
- Temporary Employer Sponsored 482 Visa: You would need to have 2 years of full-time (38 hours per week) plus, work experience to apply for this visa. Once you receive your invitation, you could then transition to the General Skilled Migration Visa or move to the Permanent 186.
- Permanent Employer Sponsored Visa (Subclass 186) To apply for this visa, you would need to have at least 3 years of full-time work experience (post qualification, which for most trades is Cert III).
- Training Visa (Subclass 407) This visa has the least requirements, you only need to have at least 12 months of work experience. It is also significantly cheaper compared to the 482 or 186 visa. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Pathway to Aus
