Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
The Graduate Diploma is an advanced qualification in TESOL and Literacy. Students will gain an advanced understanding of TESOL approaches (text-based, genre-based, task–based, Systemic Functional Linguistics, etc), curriculum development, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, and assessment design. They will have the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge in real TESOL classrooms.
A key feature of the program is that students will be trained in tailoring their teaching approaches to accommodate a different cohort of students across age groups, and ethnicity, as well as variation in literacy and numeracy skill levels. The award is accredited and recognised internationally.
- Educational Background:
- A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized institution. Some programs may prefer or require a background in education, linguistics, or a related field.
- English Language Proficiency:
- Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency in English, typically through tests such as IELTS (minimum score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0) or TOEFL (minimum score of 79-93). Pathways to Aus is partnered with many English Schools in cities across Australia. You may find more information our English language programs here.

- A resume or CV outlining educational background and work experience.
- A personal statement or statement of purpose explaining the applicant’s interest in the program and career goals.
- Letters of recommendation (typically two) from academic or professional references.
- Interview:
- Some programs may require an interview as part of the selection process to assess the applicant’s suitability and commitment to the field of TESOL.
- Additional Requirements:
- Some institutions may have specific requirements or prerequisites, such as completion of certain undergraduate courses or attendance at an information session.
Graduates of the TESOL program will be well-prepared to work in a variety of educational environments, including schools, language institutes, and universities, both in Australia and internationally. They will be equipped to address the unique challenges of teaching English to speakers of other languages, helping learners achieve proficiency and confidence in their English language skills.
